Why I built this.

It started with questions about religion and history that the easy answers didn't cover. That search led me through the ancient world — Mesopotamia, Ugarit, Egypt — and eventually to India, where I started learning Hindi under the confident misapprehension that I'd need it to read the Gita.

I was wrong about the language. I kept going anyway.

The films came after that, and they came slowly. Somewhere across a few hundred of them I stopped watching Indian cinema and started living inside it — watching people reconcile across religion, language and border in ways I hadn't seen anywhere else.

Stories are the bridges. Ye Wali just helps you find them.
